Chlamydia is the most common bacterial sexually transmitted infection (STI) worldwide. In most cases (more than 80%), people do not show symptoms and can unknowingly spread the infection. In women, untreated chlamydia can lead to serious health problems such as pelvic inflammatory disease (a major cause of infertility), ectopic pregnancy, and chronic pelvic pain. It also increases the risk of HIV infection, while in men it may cause urethritis and epididymitis.
Because current prevention methods (like using condoms and sexual education) have limited effectiveness in real-life settings, there is a need for a vaccine that can protect people against chlamydia infection.
Momentum Clinical Research is evaluating a potential vaccine that is designed to prevent both chlamydia primary infections and reinfections. The vaccine works by using messenger RNA (mRNA) to instruct the body’s cells to produce specific proteins that stimulate an immune response that canprevent a chlamydia infection.
The aim of this study is to measure the safety, efficacy, and immune response of 3 different dosage levels and a placebo of the study vaccine. During the study, participants will receive ongoing health monitoring and
assessments.
By participating in this study, you could help contribute to the development of a vaccine that may protect the sexual health of those in your community and future generations.
