Knee osteoarthritis is a common and progressive joint condition that affects millions of people worldwide. It occurs when the protective cartilage in the knee joint wears down over time, leading to pain, joint stiffness, swelling, and reduced mobility. For many individuals, simple daily activities, such as walking, climbing stairs, or standing for long periods can become increasingly difficult and uncomfortable.
Beyond the physical symptoms, knee osteoarthritis can have a real impact on emotional well-being. It may limit individuals’ ability to enjoy their favourite hobbies, participate in social activities, or stay active with family and friends. Over time, the condition can take a toll on overall quality of life.
Current treatments for knee osteoarthritis focus mainly on relieving symptoms. These may include lifestyle changes, physical therapy, pain medications or injections. In more advanced cases, surgery may be recommended.
However, none of these options are proven to slow or stop the progression of the disease itself.
