High Blood Pressure Research Study

Clinical Study Details

Hypertension (high blood pressure) is characterised by a persistent elevation of pressure in the blood vessels.

Despite widespread availability of treatments, many adults still have difficulty controlling their blood pressure. Uncontrolled hypertension can lead to many complications including heart attacks, stroke, heart failure, and kidney problems.

Here at AusTrials, we are studying an investigational medication intended to reduce blood pressure in adults with high risk of heart disease and hypertension that is not adequately controlled by current medications.

The aim of the study is to determine how effective the new medication is in lowering the blood pressure of participants over three months of treatment compared to a placebo.

You may be eligible to participate if you:

To be eligible you must:

  • Are 18 years of age or older AND,
  • Have a history of or high risk of cardiovascular disease (e.g., history of a heart attack, stroke, blocked arteries, heart bypass, kidney issues)
  • Currently taking 2 to 4 blood pressure medications
  • Struggle to maintain normal blood pressure levels.

This study has an approximate duration of up to 14 months and will involve 7 clinic visits.

The study treatment will be provided for free. Eligible participants will be reimbursed for study visits and reasonable study-related travel expenses.
