Prof Richard Stubbs (MD, FRCS, FRACS)
Chief Medical Officer
Professor Stubbs serves as the Chief Medical Officer at Momentum Clinical Research, bringing extensive leadership and clinical expertise. Richard was previously the Research Director at P3 Research, one of Momentum’s founding companies, and was appointed Managing Director in 2010 after serving as chairman of the board since 2005. Under his leadership, P3 Research expanded from two to seven sites between 2010 and 2023. Richard is also a former President of the New Zealand Association of Clinical Research.
A graduate of the University of Otago’s Medical School, Richard furthered his training in the UK and USA, specialising in hepato-biliary and upper GI surgery. In the course of this training and throughout his career he held a major interest in clinical research and also undertook significant laboratory research. He has earned global recognition for his work in the management of liver cancer and the surgical treatment of severe obesity. Richard’s early research into the link between the gut and insulin resistance has been foundational in advancing our understanding of metabolic diseases.
We are privileged to have a doctor of Richard’s calibre serving as our Chief Medical Officer at Momentum. Outside of work, Richard enjoys spending time with his family at his property in the mountainous village of Tekapo which lies on the shore of New Zealand’s highest alpine lake in the South Islands picturesque Mackenzie Country.
